BASIC SKIRT SHAPES

Hi dearies, welcome back to my blog. I hope you are all having a nice weekend.
This blog post is about the '7' basic skirt shapes. I just felt like sharing these basics before we go into the cutting and sewing tutorials. I'm not saying there are 7 types of skirts. no no, what I',m saying is these 7 basic shapes are modified and redesigned to give other skirt shapes.
So let's get started.
1) PENCIL SKIRT: these are straight skirts with a slim fit and a narrow cut hence, it shows off the body curve. it can be made with or without slit.

2) A-LINE SKIRT: this looks like the letter A when viewed from the back or front. It's width increases as you move from the waist to the hem of the skirt, hence, giving it the A shape.
3)FLARED SKIRT: it can be full flare or partial flare, but it shape basically appears like a circle or half circle. It's usually very full near the hem and suits any body type.
4) PLEATED SKIRT: these are stitched in such a way to produce fullness with a fitted waist and structure fold.
5)GATHERED SKIRT: these are made by pulling the fabric together, hence they do not have a structured fold but, still gives the full skirt appearance.
6) FISH TAIL SKIRT: an example is the high - low skirt. They are often longer at the back than the front. They have a tight fitting at the waist and then flare out. It can also be referred to as the mermaid skirt when it is fitted to knee length before it flares out.
7) GORED SKIRT: It is made by joining materials cut out with fitting patterns that have the same shape. The end product is a skirt that has tight fitting at the waist and hips, it can either flair out or be straight depending on personal preference.
And there you have the 7 basic skirt shapes.
our very first tutorial will be up next week.. So stay glued to this site.
XOXO
